This scrambling climb up Maine's highest mountain takes you up the Abol slide "trail" to the Tableland where it meets the Hunt trail (which is also the AT) at Thoreau Spring. Then the last mile follows the infamous Appalachian Trail to its northern terminus atop Baxter Peak on Mount Katahdin. The return trip goes down the AT/Hunt trail where a shuttle or road walk is needed to get back to your car...
Took AT approach trail from top of Amicalola Falls out to FS46 (High Shoals Church Rd) then walked the gravel road back to the 2nd trail crossing. Picked up the trail and returned to parking lot.
Gorgeous climb up Frozen Head Mountain via the South Old Mac Trail, Lookout Tower trail, then down the North Old Mac trail. More wildflowers than I've ever seen.
