Story:
Quick trip to the swimming area of the Pedernales Falls State Park. After hiking along the main falls for a few hours, we decided to make the easy trek down to the river where swimming is allowed. The road to access the swimming area is clearly marked and about in the middle of the park. Along the way, you pass a very large parking lot for picnicking with grilles, bathrooms, etc. Once you reach the swimming area parking lot it is about a 1/4 mile down a path and stairs to the river. It is very easy to get down here, but quite a few stairs coming back up. The area is pretty nice and peaceful. You can hike along the banks of the river and even swim across if you want. Another trail called 4 mile loop is easy to pick up nearby using the map provided at the entrance to the park.

Tips:
Parking in the summer is difficult so get there early. Shoes with good traction are a must; just keep in mind they will get sandy most likely wet. The park closes at 10pm each night and has several trails, camping areas, picnicking, mountain biking, etc. The drive out of Austin takes about 30 minutes from downtown and the park is easy to find. Bring plenty of water as it does get hot in the Hill Country.
