Story:
The Bribie Bunch & Queanbeyan Mob set off on the first day of 2011 for an overnight adventure to The Castle. It was a wee bit hot setting off and so the going was slow. Simon scored a leech at the first river crossing, Huon lost a tooth ascending the ridge & Scarlet bumped her knee during the afternoon. We happened across waterfall that soothed our spirits, and on we climbed. At a three-ways near the saddle we dropped our packs on top of the sign engraved in the rock, however Scarlet saved the day when spotting the carved letters 'TC', 'H', and 'MV'. After some funny guesswork we headed for the only acronym we didn't know! We found the saddle, then descended (didn't quite feel right, but we did) to camp. Beautiful. We pitched tents, swam in the icy creek, and gazed at the peaceful forest surrounds from a ledge that looked back toward Pigeon House Mountain. We slept & then summited The Castle on day 2, and not in heat, but in dense mist. No view at all, but lots of rock climbing and one wrong turn. A quick descent to the car (comparative to the climb!). Satisfaction! Hamburgers... Sleep

Tips:
Don't do it over 35degrees, and do stay more than one night to explore Monolith Valley & relax in-situ. The iPhone battery ran out mid trek too, so perhaps don't use it quite so often to check your whereabouts!
