Story:

Note: Two separate GPS's on our trip showed a mileage of about 4 miles. I had turned down the accuracy of Everytrail to conserve my phone battery as I usually use my Garmin Rhino GPS/Radio unit to mark trails but had loaned it out. However, hike is easy enough on the paved portion that you should have no worries trekking out about a mile and then turning around and coming back through the hike as marked which takes you on a natural surface trail to see some ruins.

Since the museum is closed on Sundays this hike is best done on a Saturday where, post hike, we can enjoy the museum and then walk next door to the trolley stop for lunch. This makes a short and sweet sneaker hike not be over too fast for those driving a ways to regret. This is one of our top social hikes since it is doable by anyone!

This trail is a hidden gem and it starts out in a historic downtown area of Ellicott City. However, if rapidly feels like you are in the wilds of an isolated mountain pass! There is a wonderful stream that meanders throughout the area named little Cooper Branch, and the stream path used for this hike takes you past remnants of old bridges and other historical sights of interest. This trail starts near the first railroad station in the entire country.

This is a flat and easy trek. The paths are paved or wooden platforms/boardwalk - you could wear sneakers.
