Story:
This is a very scenic hike we took on a visit to San Luis Obispo. The weather was 80 deg in December! I don't think I have ever seen the ocean so flat and calm. We could see for miles and miles, oh yeah... (as The Who would say)

We parked on Shell Beach Rd at Cave Landing Rd which is actually a trail at the base of the hill. The Cave Landing Rd trail takes you behind homes and merges with Bluff Dr.. You continue along the bluffs and pick up a trail that takes you to a large dirt parking area on Cave Landing Rd. (35.175758,-120.719073). From here there is a trail down to Pirate's Cove that has a (nude) beach and a cave called Whale Cave. After exploring those areas we turned north and went up to the top of the ridge. The trail is really, really steep and has a fair amount of loose rock. It is an ass kicker but worth the view at the top. I was so tired I forgot to take photos of that trail and view from the top of it. I did get some farther along the ridge. The ridge trail continues past a com tower installation and proceeds to drop down to a lower ridge. Some steep parts and a lot of loose rock but very manageable. It eventually dropped us back to our starting point.
Tips:
Good hiking shoes a must on the ridge trail. Bring water and camera. There are several forks and no markers on the ridge trail so know the direction you want to go in.
