Story:
Was in Montevideo, Uruguay on business and I had a couple of hours before dinner to go for a walk through the Old City and some of the downtown areas. My hotel, in the Punta Carretas neighbourhood, was too far to walk from, so I took a taxi to the Plaza Independencia.
From the Plaza I walked through the Ciudad Vieja area along Sarandi street. I then doubled back and walked along Ave. 18 de Julio, one of Montevideo's main boulevards to the Plaza Libertad. I then took a taxi back to the hotel.
Along the way I saw: Puerta de la Ciudadela, Gate of the original Citadel of Montevideo, Palacio Salvo, Torre Ejecutiva: Presidencia República Oriental del Uruguay, Mausoleo General José Artigas Equestrian Statue, Palacio Esteves (president''s office), Teatro Solis, Plaza Constitucion / Plaza Matriz, Fuente de la Plaza Constitución, Iglesia Matriz - Catedral de Montevideo, Statue of Mausoleo General José Artigas in front of Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay, Cabildo de Montevideo (original townhall), Estatua de la Libertad y Columna de la Paz / Liberty statue atop the Peace column at the Plaza Cagancha.

Tips:
There's so much more to see. My short visit didn't come close to covering the historic and cultural stops in this city. I'll be back, but will allow more time for sightseeing.
