Late summer, early fall after the Lake Owyhee water levels have dropped, the Watson area can be reached by ATV from the Leslie Gulch campground in eastern Oregon.  The Watson area is a loose collection of homesteads that were bought out by the Federal government in the 1930s in preparation for the construction of the Lake Owyhee Dam.  I visitied the area with the Kuna Trail Riders ATV club in November, 2010.
In order to complete this trip, two things are necessary.  The reservoir water levels must be low and the Owyhee River streamflows must be low.  The ATV trail upstream from Leslie Gulch is only available once the reservoir level drops below approximately 2620 feet.  You can find uptodate reservoir information at http://www.usbr.gov/pn/hydromet/ramps/owyhee/owyhee.html  The day we made the ride the reservoir level stood at 2607 feet.
Since this ride requires two crossings of the Owyhee River, you must also make sure that streamflows are low.  This information can be found using the streamflow data recorded at Rome, Oregon.  It is accessible at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=13181000  Anytime I have crossed the river, the streamflows were 170 cfs or less.

It's nice to see some other atv trips/trails in this area being put on ET.

Great photos.

Will try to get out this week and run out the trail you blazed, especially since the water is down.

Great trip. We have received conflicting info on where or if you can cross the river. Now we will have to do it.
