This is a ride along the (almost fully completed) Banks-Vernonia "Linear" Park Trail.
The trail is a rails to trail conversion 22 miles in length. There are several trail heads along the route and in both Vernonia and Banks there are nice little restaurants for snacks.
The trail crosses two restored trestles, which makes the route fun. There is only one spot where, because the original trestle burned down many year ago, the route drops from the railroad grade.
Tips:
Stop at the Black Bear Cafe in Vernonia.

This ride is totally family friendly. I rode it on my skinny tire road bike and excpet for about 100 yards it was fine. My buddy rode a cross bike and that was perfect. A mountain bike would work, but not ideal. The route is almost fully paved.
