Story:
This was a ride taken on day two of some of the most beautiful weather we've had yet this fall.  Cloudless blue skies and a crisp afternoon with temps in the upper 50s made for another great cycling day.  The previous day's ride was a loop around Lake Washington, and for this route I wanted to ride through the rural Eastside to check out the trees changing.  This route also follows a segment of the Flying Wheels Century ride held each summer.

I started in a school parking lot near the south end of Lake Sammamish, and from there cycled past Lake Sammamish State Park and up onto the Sammamish Plateau.  The scenery on the Plateau is a mix of roads open to the sky and shaded under trees, the latter especially on the east side of the plateau near Duthie Hill.  This gives way to farmland and pastures under wide open skies in the segment that runs through the Snoqualmie Valley.  Here the spring and summer crops have been replaced by more autumn fare - including pumpkins (it's nearly Halloween, after all).  The valley was very pretty this time of year, with the green grass of the fields contrasting with the darker shades of the evergreens and turning trees in the background.  After the loop through the valley it was back up and into the shaded hills on the east side of the Sammamish Plateau before a last drop with a few miles along Lake Sammamish itself.

The ride had a little bit of everything - shaded tree-lined hills, fields and farmland under wide skies and autumn sunlight reflecting off of the lake.  Plus, hey, the GPS track looks a bit like a Fox Terrier.  What could be better?
