Story:
You'll see views of Longs Peak, Mt Meeker, Twin Sisters, Meadow, St. Vrain Mtns. Also the Mummy Range, and the Continental Divide from McHenrys Peak to Flattop Mtn.Lily Mtn (9,786') is only a 2 mile hike on a well-maintained trail; great for a 1/2-day hike to strech your legs. The summit offers some awesome views that you would not expect from the view of the summit from the highway. You'll also view the red-roofed building of the YMCA Camp.
The first mile of the trail is a gentle slope, with an occasional loss in elevation. The second mile, from the switchback to short of the summit is a bit more of an incline, on a well marked trail. The final 100' to summit involves some easy Class 2 scrambling, which is well worth the effort considering the panoramic view that awaits the successful climber.
There are several interesting granite formations that you will pass along the trail. Take a moment to climb on some of these outcrops to get some good views of Estes Park, and Loveland and Fort Collins 30 miles to the NE.
Take a lunch along, and plan on spending some time on the summit looking for familiar landmarks.....couldn't find a better perch!

Tips:
Avoid the social trails on the first leg of the switchback, that begin about 0.1 mi.s from the TH.......take and stick to the lower trail that parallels the hwy. There is only a +1006' elevation gain from the TH (8780') to the summit (9786'), and EveryTrail.com overstates the vertical up (2525')
The final 100' is a Class 2 scramble, and a fun challenge for anyone not accustomed to climbing.
