Story:
This is a perfect one or two night backpacking trip.  The trailhead is 4 miles south of Darby.  Most of the hard work is done by the time you get up a 10 mile switchback of a dirt road.  Then it's a steep, but only 1 hour accent to Baker Lake, the first of 3 pristine mountain lakes.  Staying to the right of Baker Lake's inlet stream we headed up to Gem lake past Middle Lake.  Gem Lake lives up to it's name.  It is a beautiful place, with equally as beautiful campsites, each with their own little alpine paths.  There is a rock face near the outlet of Gem Lake that is perfect for stargazing.  The moon was so bright in the middle of the night you could read a book by it.  Definitely set the bar for a great overnight camping spot and short, but very steep hike.
