Story:
Hiking and sight-seeing at Linville Gorge Wilderness in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.
Hawksbill is a short but steep hike -- under a mile one-way but more challenging than you might suspect for such a short distance. The views at the top are breathtaking.
Trip writeup at Two-Heel Drive.

Tips:
Most trails at Linville Gorge Wilderness are extremely rugged - rocks, roots, steep sections, etc.
Hawksbill is very windy at the top and probably very slick when it's wet. Get down off the peak ASAP if a storm rolls in, especially if you see lightning.
