Story:
The Land of Waterfalls refers to Transylvania County in North Carolina, where there are over 250 waterfalls. My trip only covers 9 of them, about all I could manage in a one day trip. Brevard is the town right in the middle of this and there are waterfalls just about every direction from this town. It is a good town to plan your trip around, with a good selection of places to eat and stay.
This trip will require lots of hiking and driving. It is also best to get an early start, if you want to see as much as you can. My trip today took place in 5 different locations; Whitewater Falls, Gorges State Park, Dupont State Forest, Looking Glass Falls and the popular Sliding Rock. The majority of the hiking...and the waterfalls happened in 2 places, Gorges State Park and Dupont State Forest. These two locations had about 4 miles of hiking in each and contributed 3 waterfalls to my trip each. There are more falls in these parks, I stuck to the big names for this trip, when I do the parks separately, I will include more falls.
I have to say that Rainbow Falls is my favorite, words can not describe why, you just have to go visit it and put yourself next to the waterfall and feel it. High Falls and Looking Glass Falls were right up there too.
