Three day backpacking trip with Boy Scout Troop 604.  First day was an easy 3.5 miles from Crabtree Trailhead to Camp Lake.  The lake was fairly busy during this Labor Day weekend, but we were able to find a nice hardened site for 13 people with a view of the lake.  We got to camp early enough for a nice swim in the lake.  There was a nice little granite island near the south end that made for nice jumping.  After the swim we watched the fish jumping as dusk fell and the alpine glow lit up the eastern ridges.  Next day we packed up and headed up the trail towards Lillypad Lake, Paiute Meadow and our ultimate destination, Paiute Lake.  Even in late August, the wildflowers were abundant.  Luckily, the mosquitos were NOT!  After lunch by the lake and refilling our water bottles, we headed back to Camp Lake for the final night.  The hike out on day three was very easy.  A couple of notes on the trail... while there were several good climbs (the descent from Camp Lake the climb to Lillypad Lake, the descent to Paiute Meadow and the final drop to Paiute Lake... all the hills were relatively short... no long hauls.  Compared to the hike to Half Dome a couple of weeks ago, this hike was relatively easy.

I talked with some of the boys that went along. They really had a good time and said the fish were pretty big. I wonder if one could bring a fishing pole (and license) along? Thanks for sharing your trip notes!
