Story:
Walk out to the Ka Lu'u o ka 'O'ō crater. The walk is dusty and dirty and you feel like you are walking on Mars. There is very little life or vegetation, it is almost desert terrain. Easy on the way down but the walk back is continuously uphill in soft, sandy soil - it takes twice as long.

Bring water - there is no shade and the sun at 10,000ft can beat you up.
