The North Garage off Fulton was full when we drove past, so we ended up parking on Balboa, two blocks north of the park and walking in. Street parking was free, which is so much better than the $3/hour in the Park. It was a pretty drizzly and wet walk, but it wasn't terribly far to the Conservatory where we'd be indoors.
After seeing and photographing tons of plants at the Conservatory, we headed to Baan Thai House and Wine Bar south of the Park, on Irving between 6th and 7th. Delicious curries for about $8 each. www.baanthaisf.com/menus.html
In the almost rain, we walked back to the Academy of Sciences for a quick tour through the Steinhart Aquarium and African Hall. Having a membership is awesome. You can pop in for just an hour or spend an entire other day there! It was pretty crowded, even for being after 3pm, and they close at 5.
Tips:
Even though it's technically summer, always wear layers when headed to The City! It was drizzly and wet and windy on this trip in early August!

A lot of streets in Golden Gate Park are closed on Sundays, but free (and unregulated) parking can be found in any of the bordering neighborhoods as long as you're up for a bit of walking. NOTE: it is regulated on the weekdays, so beware!
