Story:
Barra da Tijuca's beach is the longest beach of Rio de Janeiro. And the nearest of the city center where you could practice kitesurf. Posto two on Pepe beach is the hot point of the beach, where beautifuls and famous enjoy the sun. As Ronaldinho Gaucho, who is used to play footvolley on Pepe beach.

During the soccer woldcup (next one in 2014 will be in Brasil), i used to assist the games involving Brasil in one of those Kiosk distributed along the beach. A few minutes before the beginning of the game, streets get empty and stores closed. For more than one hour, Rio de Janeiro is as quiet as a desert. And it's fantastic.
Tips:
Don't miss a walk on one of the famous Rio's beaches: Copacabana, Ipanema, Sao Conrado or Barra da Tijuca. There are running and bicycle way all along the beaches. Early in the morning just before working time, you'll share the way with plenty of Cariocas, well known for their passion for sport. All along the beach there are cute places (kiosk) to enjoy a fresh coconut juice.
There are places with lifeguards all along the beach, called Posto. Have a bath in front of one of those Posto if you are not used to quite big waves. Posto 9 on Ipanema and posto 2 on Barra da Tijuca beaches are the most famous.
No need to fear for violence on Barra beach, it's absolutely safe.
