Story:
Day trip to Engineer Mountain. This is one of the more distinctive 13K peaks between Silverton and Durango.
Started out at Coal Bank Pass on Hwy 550. There is a great trail that gets up to the base of the peak. The hike to the peak is over shale, mostly pretty good footing. The route stays close to ridge which gets pretty skinny in places with some exposure. There is one segment which is class 3 to 4 of about 100 ft. That section has good hanholds and footing, but is quite steep with exposure.
Had a great view from the summit on totally windless day.
Great hike which will get your adrenaline flowing!

Tips:
Stay right of ridge on red rock, then transistion to left side at the crux section. Might be a great hike to continue to the west peak and then to descend to Cascade Creek. Would need to shuttle a car.
