Story:
Wanted to try a hike up Sugar Pine Ridge in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. it promised great views at low enough elevation we hoped to avoid lots of snow.

On our first pass we walked past the turn off and a sign warned the trail was unmaintained. We continued on the main trail but it was in a valley and not much of a challenge. There were some nice views and we hiked next to a large lava flow. However, since that trail's main destination was about a 14 mile round-trip (Jefferson Lake) we turned around and took out chances on the ridge.

We didn't get very far before the trail got lost in downed trees and underbrush. The walking in uncomfortable enough we turned around and headed toward home.
Tips:
Easy drive out from Camp Sherman. Check with Ranger to see if Sugar Pine ridge trail is opened
