Story:
Upcoming trip plans.
Massive amounts of snow means Donahue Pass at 11,200' will require a good deal of snow shoeing, but we'll get there. Then hopefully the lakes on the other side aren't frozen over. Assuming we can fish, we'll need to fish deep to catch much. Regardless, should be an awesome adventure.
On top of this, Friday night is a New Moon, and the Lyrids meteor shower peaks late in the week. And, not to jinx it, but weather says it should be clear, cold nights. Whoohoo!
6/8 - Drive up late Weds and sleep @ Mammoth Motel 6. Leave sealed box with change of clothes for after exiting trail on Saturday. Hoping they'll do this for us.
6/9 - Big breakfast, then leave car at TM Wilderness Center parking, pick up permits @ 8 AM and head south down Lyell Canyon. Knock out ~10-12 miles and set up camp @ ~9.5k elevation below Donahue Pass. Staying below 9.6k so we can have a campfire (hopefully).
6/10 - Tough day, but over Donahue Pass into Ansel Adams, and finish by catching a few Brook trout for dinner. :) Set up camp overlooking shores of Thousand Island or Garnet Lake.
6/11 - More fishing, relaxing and setting up camp near Rosalie Lake or so. Meteor shower should be picking up.
6/12 - Head to Agnew Meadows and catch Reds Meadow shuttle to Mammoth Village. Change over to Mammoth Town Trolley, and exit stop 14 on Main St. Stay overnight at Mammoth Lakes Motel 6 ($70 for 3 people).
6/13 - Catch 7:20 AM YARTS shuttle from in front of the Shilo Inn (.4 miles down Main St) for $8/person, back up to Tuolumne Meadows (get off at TM Store stop @ ~9:05 AM), grab car and head home.
An easier way would be to leave car at Mammoth Inn's "backcountry" parking lot, and take YARTS up to TM on day 1. Unfortunately YARTS only runs on the weekends in June, so having to stay overnight in Mammoth on final day. No biggie though.
