With our sights on a beautiful Fall Weekend, we were able to fit Soccer in Saturday morning and then venture over to Round Valley State Park for a 3 Mile Canoe Trek over to the Wilderness Campistes on the otherside of the Reservoir. The Reservior offers 85 remote sites that are accessible by either Trail or Paddle and offer true peace and tranquility!
We pushed off around 3pm and made landfall a quick 3 miles later...Right on thew water, we set up camp just off the shoreline but reserved the campifire for right on the beach. Nothing beats cooking dinner and watching a sunset while the campfire crackles. Homemade chicken soup was a big hit for dinner...Gotta love Costco Rotisserie Chicken and Mom's home cooking! After Dinner we enjoyed a nice game of Uno around the campfire as well as "Whiteboard" Pictionary.... And oh, of course we roasted Marshmellows!
While the weather forceast called for a 20% chance of showers...guess what the 20% chance hit us in the middle of night. Note to self - Rain fly's work really well when they are on the tent. While the kids slept nestled in their luxiorious 2 Man, not child, but 2 Man Tent Bone Dry (ohhh...yeah...we put their fly on!), Dad braved the torrential downpours to put the fly on Mom and Dad's tent! Ahh Much better...Thank God for Benadryl...I was out like a light in a matter of a few seconds!
Despite sleeping in the tents, the lovely children did manage to sleep until after 7am...an occassion that almost certainly never occurs at home! Breakfast and a hike rounded out the morning. With limited sun, we knew the drying would have to be reserved for home....
The paddle back was equally as enjoyoyable with water like glass. All-in-all an awesome weekend despite having to re-set up the tents at home!
