Story:
I've now done this walk four times and the last time I trekked it I added in Slack's Steps mainly out of curiousity.
The walk starts at the National Park centre and then descends hundreds of stairs to Empress Falls and the National Pass Trail.
Once you're on the trail it's fairly level and the walk takes you up close and personal to the base of the cliffs and their overpowering presence.
At times the views are spectacular, at other times beautiful. When you ascend Wentworth Falls at the opposite end of the trail you can return via the appropriately named Undercliff Track (recommended) or the flat trail along the top of the plateau.
The excursion to the lower part of Wentworth Falls via Slack's Steps is very steep and, in one short section, you have to lower yourself about 4 metres by fixed rope. It's not for those with vertigo.
The whole walk takes 4-5 hours at an unrushed pace and is one of the great day walks of the Blue Mountains.
