Story:
I hiked Lone Peak with my 9 year old son and a good friend. We ascended following the Jacob's Ladder trail. While we had read that there was limited/no water July on, we found ample water at the junction (which cuts across to Outlaw Cabin) as well as further up the trail. At about 10k feet, we were heading off the trail to allow my 9 year old to use the "facilities" when we about stepped on the rattler you'll see in the pictures!
We descend following the Bear Canyon/Orson Smith trailhead (we left a shuttle vehicle at the trailhead) but weren't able to actually find the trail until about a mile from Outlaw Cabin. Thereafter the trail was easy to follow.
An great hike with incredible views. While my 9 year old son hiked it just fine, not sure I would have taken him if I would have known the bouldering required just before the summit (not a good place for anyone to fall). If I were to hike Lone Peak again, I would probably backpack to the meadows and summit the following morning.
Definitely a hike to do again!
