Story:
During our family trip to Mexico we visited the archeological Maya site of Kinich Kakmo in Izamal. The pyramid-shaped temple is 34 meters high, and quite steep to climb. Our 2 and 4-years old enjoyed climbing up, but I carried them one by one up the final steep part (you can see this in the GPS track).
The top offers a nice 360 degrees view on the town of Izamal and surroundings.
When the others headed back I decided to explore the back side of the temple, and I was able to loop all the way around it, in some narrow steps and trails. I encountered an interesting looking leguan (see photo). Its face looked old, which made me imagine that it was born all the way back in the Maya era.

Tips:
* This is a good trip for families, but be careful if you want to climb to the top. The stairs are steep and a bit eroded.
* If you want to loop around the temple, be ready to encounter some wildlife and overgrown trails.
