Originally attempted to do a loop, but ended up doing a wishbone shaped trip. We made it out to Upper Relief Valley on the first night. On the second day we backtracked to summit Black Hawk Mountain, then camped near Saucer Meadow. We hiked out on the third day.

The trailhead for Kennedy Meadow is quite far from the overnight parking. Drop off the packs and people at the trailhead and have the driver walk or hitchhike to the trailhead.

There are lots of loop potential in Emigrant Wilderness. Go for something conservative that has a longer option rather than the other way around.

Bring a fishing pole.

We actually got caught in some rain/hail/snow the weekend we did the trip. Unfortunately it happened when we were descending Black Hawk Mountain without any of our gear. You can read all about it if you visit my trip report:
