Hike to Broadway Cave, Superstition Wilderness - Arizona, United States

Story:
I was driving east on US 60 one day and looked over at the Superstition Mountains and saw a large cave opening in the side of the mountains.  I wondered if it would be possible to get to that cave or if the terrain was too steep.  Just a few days later I was looking at Panoramio photos in Google Earth and saw some pictures someone had taken at Broadway Cave.  There were even pictures of the trailhead.  Since I knew it could be done, I headed out there the next chance I got.

It only got up to about 90 on the day I hiked to the cave, but there was almost no wind and there was not a cloud in the sky.  I drank a lot of water that day.  The only shade was in the shadow of saguaros.

The cave does not go very far into the mountain.  It looks like someone had dug a mine in the floor of the cave many years ago.  The view is interesting from the cave but not real scenic, since you are looking out over suburbia.  This isn't the hike to take if you want to get away from city life for a little while.  I heard barking dogs and loud motorcycles the whole time I was out there.  If you like walking through lots of saguaros (and I do), it's a nice hike.
Tips:
The parking area at the trailhead is large enough for only 5 vehicles, so be prepared to take an alternate hike if you can't get a spot.  The trail is composed of loose rocks; wear shoes that will protect your ankles.  There is no water along the trail; take lots with you.
