Story:
We drove about 1 hr from Kihei. From Kahului, take 340 north on the Kahekii Hwy. About 0.9 mi from mile marker 6, watch for the Mendes Ranch on the right. The turnoff for the Boy Scout camp is immediately on the left. You can park here or continue another 0.8 mi up the hill to reach the parking are next to the Boy Scout Camp. On this day, there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot.
The hike, while short, is strenuous in that the climb is about 1600 ft. The first mile or so is in a forested area. Once on the ridge line, the views open up,as does the wind. Portions of the trail are slippery, so footing can be an issue. I recommend hiking boots to tennis shoes or flip flops. A hiking stick may also be desirable.
This trail is best hiked in the morning. In the afternoon, clouds / rain can move in. Remember to take water and stay hydrated.
