Story:
You know, a funny thing happened on the way to the Pali Lookout -- I ran into a trail.
I had planned to run this morning, from the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden over to the old Pali Highway. I was hoping to find out how it connected to the portion that runs up to the Pali Lookout -- that seemed like a good run, both for distance and for challenge.
Everything was going fine until I got under the H1, and ran into the Maunawili Connection Trail. I could have hung a right, and headed up the hill on the old road, or I could have gone straight and run what looked to be an excellent trail.
I chose the trail. And in a word, it was awesome.
The key junction on this trail is on the old highway, where going right takes you uphill to the H1 and going left takes you downhill to..... well, I dunno. I thought I was going to have to go left; going right didn't show up on the maps or Google Earth. I am glad I went right.

Tips:
1. Bring water. In the 15 miles, I went through all 100 ounces that I had brought with me. Other than the chuch and the 19th hole at the golf course, the only option for water after the garden is an overflow tank -- which is clearned marked as being of unknown quality (meaning likely unsafe to drink).
2. Bring a camera. The garden is beautiful. The old highway is beautiful. And the trail has awesome views.
3. Figure out ahead of time just how far you want to go. I decided on 15 somewhere early on in the run, so that determined where I turned around. It's easy on this run to just keep going -- whih can be dangerous, as it's out there away from the world.

Woah, very interesting! I know this was a while back but did you do this by yourself? How did you go threw the golf course? I'd imagine those golfers to get mad! hah, I'll try it sometime this week and post back with plenty of pictures.
