Story:
This is a great hike across the headlands with expansive views of the Golden Gate, the Marin Headlands, the North Bay and Pacific. You gain a lot of elevation but for some reason (maybe temps in the 40s/50s?) it doesn't feel like half of what the DEM data says.

Sammydee and I dropped a car up on Hwy 1 and shuttled back to parking at the NW parking lot near the northern end of the bridge. From there the first BART trail sign is easily located(the entire trail is nicely signed) and you ascend up the side of hills above 101. Even in December we were treated to a decent show of wildflowers: milkmaids, fransican paintbrush, star lillies, checkermallow, hawksbeard, scotch broom, blue witch, wild strawberries and blackberries among others.
There's not much if any shade along the route so carry water in summer. The sole bathrooms are located in Tennessee valley along with some picnic tables at the busy parking lot. The trail climbs steeply out of here to a nice gradual hike along the Miwok trail, before you know it you're back at Hwy 1 and deciding where to go for a brew. We picked Marin Brewing Co in Larkspur and enjoyed a couple of decent burgers with some nice brews to wash them down.

Thanks Aussie! I've started following you too so I can hike Oz virtually as well :-) It's early for flowers here, we got some early rains which seems to have given them an early start this year.

Started seeing wildflowers (mostly milkmaids - everywhere) in AQS this weekend. Let the season start!

Wow, look's like I'm going to need to get on the BART train (and not the usual one I take), these photos are great. I can't decide it I want to wait for it to be complete before doing the circle in 1 direction or just pick bits and pieces until I've done it all. At least there are other great hikes nearby to keep my busy while I wait. Thanks again for another great trip report!
