Story:
We put in at Siesta Key Beach at about 8:30 AM. Seas and winds were calm when we started and the temperature was warm but not too hot. We headed north with the intention of getting to South Lido Park but there was some surf that we did not feel comfortable going through or around so we turned around and headed south. The southbound journey was much smoother and we saw plenty of feeding fish and one dolphin. Heading south, the Siesta Key beach ends and private residences begin. We enjoyed the paddle until we had to turn around due to time constraints. When we returned to the Siesta Key Beach, we discovered that the surf was now significantly higher. I rode the first wave without a problem but the second wave started turning my kayak to the right until I flipped!

Tips:
Get there early as parking can be a problem. It is a long way from the parking lot to the beach so you may want a pair of wheels to make it easier.
