Story:
We spent a long Labor Day weekend up in this part of the Sierra hiking and camping in the high country. On our way out we decided to take the short hike up Fresno Dome.
The hike starts out past a meadow, then through a pine and cedar forest. After about 10 minutes it opens up as you start a bit of climbing in some granite.
At a crest you get your first view of the top of Frenso dome. The trail then drops a bit into some trees, then climbs out and breaks out into broken granite for the final, steeper climb to the summit.
The view from the top is wonderful, a 360 degree view. It would be a good sunrise, sunset or full moon hike.

Tips:
The drive to the trailhead starts out off of Hwy 41 north of Oakhurst on Sky Ranch Road (632). It's a nicely paved road as you climb up out of the oaks into pine forest. Past Nelder Grove (also worth a stop) the pavement gets worse and then disappears. The road keeps climbing, through Fresno Dome campground and up the backside of the dome. This road can be done in a passenger car, but most people would be more comfortable with a vehicle with some ground clearnace.
The trailhead parking area is signed and is off to your right down a short (200 yd) side road from Sky Ranch road.
