We started at Blazing Saddles Bike Rental in Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. We biked West along the coast of the San Francisco Bay, and got on the Golden Gate Bridge. We crossed the bridge and biked our way to the beautiful resort community of Sausalito.
Walked through the downtown area and took the ferry back to FIsherman's Wharf.
The bike ride was alot of fun. Going from Fort Point (at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge) to the bike lane on the bridge was a difficult up hill ride. We walked our bikes for a short stretch.
The ride acorss the bridge was windy and busy with other bike traffic. The bike lane is two way and it sometimes get narrow. The wind was brisk, but not enough for us to feel unsafe.
The ride from the North side of the bridge to Sausalito was very peaceful, with just one big hill. The downtown area is wonderful, and very welcoming to bikes. The ferry service expects more than half of the riders are bike riders and runs a very effience operation.
For visitors and tourists, I highly recommend this bike ride. It is not widely advertised. We went to a bike rental shop asking if we were allowed to bike across the bridge. When we got to the rental shop we discovered that almost all of their rentals \\\"Bike The Bridge!\\\"
