The intrepid PCJH hiking group set out to conquer Delta Lake. Not only did we do that, but our fearless leader willed us over a skree field to Amphitheater Lake and then up to the Garnet Canyon overlook. It was a magnificent, exhausting hike.
The intrepid PCJH hiking group set out to conquer Delta Lake. Not only did we do that, but our fearless leader willed us over a skree field to Amphitheater Lake and then up to the Garnet Canyon overlook. It was a magnificent, exhausting hike.
Tips:
Delta Lake requires going off trail, although if you follow the cairns, it is possible to stay on a make-shift trail that has formed. The hike from Delta Lake to Amphitheater is incredible, but you have to carefully select your way across (we made several wrong selections before getting to a good completion point). The Delta to Amphitheater haul did require some non-technical rock scurrying, but it was nice having experienced rock climbers there to offer encouragement.
