The 97-acre canal connects the Indian River Bay with Little Assawoman Bay to the south and is part of the Delaware State Parks System. Measuring over three miles in length, the canal was originally dug by hand by immigrants during the 1890's. The Bethany Beach Canal is off the Assawoman Canal and will get you to the Salt Pond and Bethany Beach. Another pond off the Bethany Canal is the home of about 10 Great Blue Heron Nests. See photos.
