Story: The Mt. Cube summit is about a 2100 ft climb from the trailhead and the round-trip is about 7 miles. There's a little up-and-down along with way, but not too much. The trail starts out only slightly up, but after mile 2 the trail gets quite steep and you go up nearly 1000 vertical feet in under a mile just before the summit. The south summit is about 3.3 miles from the trailhead, and the north peak is about a 15 minute walk from the south peak. The trail is great and there's hardly any boulder-hopping. The hike is very workable with a dog that's in good shape and several easy stream crossings provide plenty water for them to wallow in and drink. The total ascent reported by my gps (with a barometric altimeter) was around 2300 ft for the 7 mile round trip, including both the south and north peaks. (not sure why trip view shows it as 2600 ft, but I'd say that's a bit much). As a bonus, we got to see a medium sized black bear about 1/2 mile into the hike (at around 9:30 am).
Tips: Parking is along the road (on the same side as the trailhead), across from a large field. Look for the brown hiking trail sign.
