Cadillac Mountain Summit - Maine, United States

Story:
This hike of almost exactly 11 miles starts and ends at the trailhead located inside the Blackwoods Campground (A-loop) on Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park.

This is the Cadillac South Ridge Trail, and includes a side trail to Eagles Crag, a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the eastern shore of the United States.

Cadillac Mountain is 1,566 feet (according to my Garmin GPSMap 60 CSx.
Tips:
This is a nice out-and-back hike that summits the largest mountain in Acadia National Park. The trailhead is conveniently located to an excellently appointed campground in the park which has a flush toilet system, fresh water everywhere, recycleable trash facilities, free firewood, etc. No showers, but just outside the campground, across the street, was a private entrepreneur offering shower facilities.

There is a road which also leads to the top of Cadillac Mountain, which explains why there is a Visitors Center located there as well. You can purchase Gatorade and other refreshing snack items should you underestimate your fluid and/or caloric intake on this hike.
