A wonderful solo late spring hike to Willson Peak. Temp was around 75 and I had a good breeze on the ridges.  Thunderstorms were forming over the central valley / Sierra.

I parked at Coyote Creek (for free ;-) ) around 12 pm and headed up grizzly gulch towards the peak.  In the first hour I saw a few mt bikers, two hikers and about 8 backpackers in a group returning from Kelly Lake.  After that I saw no one... just how I like it in Coe.

The wildflowers are still doing well with many late season flowers blooming; elgant clarkia, larkspur, elegant brodiaea, mariposa lilies in white, yellow and pink,  ithuriel\'s spear, Indian paintbursh, wood rose, columbine, french broom, monkeyflowers and poppies plus tons of globe lilies.  Good stuff if you\'re into that kind of thing.

I learned something interesting on this hike of Coe,  I\'d always wondered where all the wildlife was during my dayhikes.  On the way out around six pm there were just tons of birds out.  I\'d always thought it strange that you could be so far out in the wilderness and see no animals but it was because I was usually out here in the middle of the day.

I marked most of the water I found,  photos should cover that.  I brought in 100ozs and ran out with about .5 miles to go.  I should have brought my usual backup 32ozs and the water filter to top up the camelbak as I would have drank more if I wasn\'t in conservation mode.

Gotta keep an eye on Big Henry!

Parking is free at coyote creek entrance but there are limited spots.  Perhaps 10?

Yep, this one. If you cut up Serpentine(which is nice after some initial steep parts) you'll shave off a couple of miles.

This must be the hike you were talking about. I may give it a try later this week.
