Story:
We started the morning a little late after Daddy decided to get up at 4am and photograph the sunrise at Otter Cliffs. Needless to say, our intention was to hike the complete loop over to Acadia Mountain which would have added an additional .7 miles. However, after seeing the rapid descent on the backside of the trail and the impending ascent in the same short distance to the top of Acadia Mountain we opted for the fire road access and to end the loop at 3.5 miles. The views of Somes Sounds from the East side of the Mountain are absolutely incredible. With clear views of Baker Island, Sutton Island, Little Cranberry Island and Cranberry Island, this made a perfect breaking point for lunch. The descent was challenging for the kids, but they handled it in stride!
Tips:
Fire Road Access between Saint Sauveur Mountain and Acadia Mountain offer a great "emergency exit" for the complete loop trail.
