Story:
10 May 2009
Sunny with shade periods
23 - 28 degree Celsius
Relative humidity 83%
Hong Kong is very hot starting May till August. We planned this trip as the last one before we would have full-day hiking again in coming autumn. In this year, we hiked mostly New Territories, Lantau and other outlying Islands. Therefore, we chose taking a trail on Hong Kong Island - Wilson Trail section one from Wong Nai Chung Gap to Stanley via Violet Hill - Tsz Lor Nan Shan (紫羅蘭山) & The Twins - Ma Kong Shan (孖崗山)as our season finale.
Take Bus no. 6 from Exchange Square@Central and get off at Wong Nai Chung Gap Reservoir stop. Walk up the steps just next to the gas station and then walk towards Parkview. The first Country Park Information Board shows you the way to Violet Hill Path (紫羅蘭山徑). We walked a bit further to the second Information Board and walked up the Violet Hill from there.
The path leads to the Violet Hill top and then descends to Tsin Shui Wan Au. Everyone rests at this junction to prepare their next destination - Tai Tam Reservoir, Repulse Bay, or the Twins. After taking some snacks and drinks, one thousand steps were ahead of us to the first Twin top. The two Twins are not far away. When you have reached the Ma Kong Shan View Compass, the whole Stanley is in view.
We were lucky that the sun was not too strong and we bought plenty of water. It's a grueling hike for us. As a local hiking guide book put it correctly, "是一條發揮「軟足」效果極佳的遠足徑".

You're much braver than I'm taking the challenge in the heat of summer. :)
For fellow users not knowing Chinese, 軟足 literally means "softened legs" and it pronounces just like the Cantonese word for hiking.

I went to the Twins yesterday climbing the thousand steps and totally agree with your perspective of 軟足!
