Story:
We unloaded our ATVs next to Warren Wagon Road just before the Loon Lake Road intersection. Mounting up we headed for Warren, Idaho and regrouped at the USFS Guard Station.

At Warren Summit we turned on the Hettinger Road and proceeded, with several stops for photos, to Hays Station and then to the Hettinger (South Fork) Ranch. After visiting with the caretaker's wife, we backtracked across ranch property to the upriver South Fork of the Salmon River trail.

Dismounting we hiked to the pictoglyphs about 1/2 mile upriver. In route we passed the ruins of the Johnny Lawrence cabin. There is some interesting history on the cabin and the South Fork in this link:

Six of the eight riders had not visited the pictoglyphs before and after taking photos we returned to the ATVs for lunch. It was very warm along the river.

After lunch we returned to our trailers and then back to camp.

I left my GPS on my ATV, so don't have a track for the hike to the pictoglyphs. You can't miss them. Just follow the river trail!

Tips:
Watch out for rattlesnakes.
