Story:
Walked 1 and a half times around Moorpark College campus...walked out over to the planetarium, back to the street...as I was getting ready to enter the overflow parking area I just about stepped on the tail of a gopher snake. Luckily I saw it in time and had the balance and where-with-all to move my leg back behind me and back up a bit before walking around it. It didn't seem to mind that I was there and even let me take lots of pictures of him/her.
My second time around, I cut through the upper parking lot (stopped to watch a hawk flying overhead) and then walked down and in between the buildings until I got to the library, went around it and walked down the long descending sidewalk (stopped to take pictures of a squirrel that was standing on a tree stump) to the lower parking lot area (where the field hockey stadium is).
If you're into wildlife and you're in the area, this is a nice place to walk...especially when there are no classes going on. You'll see all kinds of birds (hummingbirds to hawks and ravens), rabbits, squirrels and even gophers.
Moorpark College is also home of the Exotic Animal Training Management (EATM) program - where students learn how to take care of wild animals and, if they desire, to work at a zoo. On the weekends they open up the center for tours and even have performances.

Tips:
It's spring and getting warmer. Be aware that the snakes are starting to come out.
