Story:

This is a nice loop just under 9 miles. The way we did it..We went exploring first past the group site and down the road to the Yellow Post area. You can connect direct in the pumphouse area if you just cross the road and follow the trail toward the hill. You can also see where I got lost. The main trail is not for the faint of heart. From Wildhorse or the group site, pass the pump house. Go up the little hill and veer left. If you go straight (or left at the y) it takes you up the Aspen Grove Switchback. It starts out nice and meadow, with rolling forest in the shade. It turns into single track fairly quickly but opens up again. There is a turn off down the hill about 2.5 miles into in it. It's easy to miss. If you continue, it opens up again until it curves left toward Fish Creek Trail. This portion of the trail becomes very narrow and ledged very quickly. Must have a good trail horse and lots of confidence. Don't worry it doesn't last long. The ledge takes you into a canyon. If you loop left, into the canyon, it will connect you to Fish Creek Trail (which is a medium advanced to high intermediate trail) and will loop you back to the switchback just out of Aspen Grove. If you go right, which we did, you can follow the trail that is adjacent to HWY 38 (horses should be good with traffic). This trail is pretty good as far as footing and there aren't alot of rocks.
Tips:

Seasoned trail horses recommended. There are some narrow areas.

Very cool. I wish everyone would do such thorough jobs gps'ing these trails. Eventually I will be able to do the definitive trail map of this area for all my Heart Bar and Wildhorse camp guests! Thanks again. Howard Luken, heartbarhost.
