Story:
The best way to get to know the Canyonlands is to leave the road behind.  This loop is "popular" according to the ranger, but we didn't see one other hiker on trail all day.  Stunning views the entire way, and serious terrain.
Tips:
BRING WATER, LOTS OF WATER.  Do not count on water at the bottom of the canyon, it was dry as a bone when we went through.  I went through my whole 3L camelbak on this trip, running out during the last few feet climbing out of the canyon.  This trail is serious business due to the heat, sun exposure, and altitude change.  Do not underestimate heat exhaustion and sun overexposure.  It even overtook me the NEXT DAY.  Start as early as you can.  Due to a few miles of walking in sand/wash if you go right from the trailhead, I would choose the counter-clockwise direction.  That's just because the last thing I want to hike through after climbing out of a canyon is beach sand.
The trail is tricky to find at some points, but keep an eye out for cairns and you'll be good.
