Story:
This was our 3rd time hiking Montara - McNee Ranch State Park, but our first time to North Peak.  There are shorter routes to North Peak (check out Trailspotting's Guide), but we like following the coastline from Grey Whale Cove Trail, so this route is around 10 miles total.  The parking lot at Grey Whale Cove is large and so far we've been able to find a spot each time.  We took Grey Whale Cove Trail to Old San Pedro Mountain Trail and then took that to Montara Mountain ridge line trail, following signs to North Peak.  The ridge line trail to the summit was just as steep as we remembered the first time we hiked it.  We followed this to the summit of Montara Mountain, which is at 1898 feet.  If you follow my route, you can skip the little loop we did near the summit - we were just trying to find a good spot to eat our PB&J sandwiches.

If we do this one again, I'd rather hike to Peak Mountain like we did last time., because North Peak is right by a big ugly array of microwave and radio towers.
Tips:
No restrooms at the parking area.
