Story:
We decided to take on the entire Galtee Mountains Range in one day as part of a training regime for a big challenge we have coming up in the summer. The route starts over on the mountain road just off the Cahir-Tipperary road, and takes in 14 different summits of the Galtee range including Slieveanard, Slieveanard NE, Sturrakeen, Sturrakeen NW, Laghtshanaquil, Farbreaga, Greenane, Greenane West, Galtybeg, Galtymore, Slievecushnabinnia, Carrignabinnia, Lyracappul and Temple Hill. This walk is not for the faint hearted, it is a long walk (around 31km) and requires a very good level of fitness. Expect to be out on the mountains for 10 hours at least and bring plenty of food and at least 2 litres of water. The walk is a 2-car walk. We parked one car over near Cahir and another in Anglesborough. Escape routes are available at various points along the route if you are familar with the Galttes such as the Black Road track or the track from the youth hostel. All in all, a really challenging hike, but one of the best one day training hikes you can do in Ireland.
