Story:

Canoing from Broad Ripple Art Center to Riverside Park.

This was our first trip together.  Three buddies and myself put in at Broad Ripple Art Center and took out at the Riverside Park boat ramp.  There is supposed to be a small dam that requires you to portage about .5 miles from teh begining and you are supposed to portage on the right side of the river.  However, the Meridan st bridge was under construction and there have been service roads built for the construction equipment on both sides of the bridge.  The smart thing to do is portage around these service roads.  We on the other hand decided to "shoot the tubes".  The construction crews have installed about 6 drainage tubes through each of the service roads.  We chose the far right and man was it fun! the first tube was easy going but the second had about a three foot drop off with some minor rapids.  My buddy and I made it through just fine(ish) but our other friends were not so lucky.  The second tube got the better of them and they went under.  in the cold water.  After this "waypoint"  the trip was pretty easy going and a blast. Great scenery with easy navigable obsticals.  I highly recomend this trip.

SHOOT THE TUBES!  IT'S A BLAST!!!

Tips:

Be careful if you "shoot the tubes" ! I got lucky but my buddies in the other canoe submarined and got pretty banged up.
