Montserrat has to be one of the most visited locations in Catalonia offering many hiking routes for all levels.
This
particular route to Santa Maria Montserrat (Abbey of Montserrat) starts at the
village of Collbato.
From here the route straight away takes a climb upwards,
once half way up, the path then runs along the edge of the mountain. After
about the first hour into the route, the path then makes a sudden climb up to
the final top.
Once reaching the top and keeping to the right the path then takes you
round to Santa Maria Montserrat.
This route without taking any rest breaks takes about an hour and half from Collbato to Santa Maria Montserrat. Once at the Abby this particular route then goes back down to Collbate the same way as you come up.
Overall:
a great three and half hour hike up to one of the most famous spots in
Catalonia.
