The Koko-Nut Hikers complete another Coachella Valley Hike. Mark, Gary, Ty, Royce, Sandy and Lance hiked from the top of the Cove in La Quinta to the Sugar Loaf Cafe on Highway 74.
It was a gorgeous day. The temperatures were cool and the trail was damp. Blues skies with no clouds. These conditions made for some fast hiking. Mark and Gary trekked at 2.7 mph and made the trip in about 5 hours discounting lunch at the Cowboy Camp.
We could actually hear Coachella Festival Music at elevation 4,800!
Tips:
This is a strenuous hike. This first half is straight up from elevation 400' to elevation 4,800' at the Cowboy Camp. The middle portion is flat. The last portion is up and down--crossing 3 streams and this section can discourage the average hiker.

Bring 3 liters of water, 2 bottles of coconut juice/fruit juice mix, snacks and a nice lunch.
