Story:
From car to Pear Lake Ski Hut and back. About 6 miles each way, but very long uphill climb to get to the hut (about 2000' up, from 7400 to 9400). We're not experienced snow-shoers, but are in decent shape... still took us 6 hours to go 6 miles. We got a bit lost at the end trying to find the hut: you can't see it, even when you get close, and the trail markers became much harder to follow after Heather lake. But a beautiful place, with incredible views.
We drove to Sequoia Nat'l Park and stayed at the John Muir lodge on day 1, hiked to the hut on day 2, explored around the hut on day 3, then hiked out and drove back to the Bay Area on day 4.

Tips:
Next time we may try back country skis with skins instead of snow shoes -- most of the others at the cabin had these, and it was great fun watching them track the fresh powder.

Nice!! It's looking like we won't make it to the mountains this year. But your picture almost made up for it.
