Story:
About 15 members of the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club made this hike.  In the past this area was a large farm owned and operated by the Kelly family.  It is now a public area and is operated as a wildlife refuge by the Knox County Parks System.  It is a beautiful area to hike and the hiking is easy.  The trails are mowed!  There are interpretative signs along the trail and lots of bird houses.  We saw Great Blue Herons nesting in the trees along the river.  If you need a rest there are benches along the trail.  We also saw wildflowers.  Ijams Nature Center periodically has field trips to the area to view Owls and other birds.
Tips:
You might want to visit the Website of Seven Rivers Wildlife Refuge before visiting the area. The URL is www.sevenislands.org/home.html.  The driving directions from Knoxville are, go East on I-40 and exit to the South (right) at the Midway exit then turn right on Midway Road.  As you continue along Midway Road you will pick up the signs to Seven Islands  Wildlife Refuge.
